Ballarat's tramway operators: who were they?
6.Notes based on "Studies of Society and Environment" in the Curriculum Standards Framework.
•Level 2: Recognise that goods and services are made by combining resources.
•Level 3: Investigate how innovation and enterprise affect people and the environment.
•Level 4:Explain factors that affect resource use and development.
The notes focus on:
•Technology, ie development of different methods of tramway operation. (Ballarat's horse tramway system; battery and steam trials; electric trams; the electric shock; the overhead trolley wire; trams versus buses.)
•Manufacturing of trams and rails (Building Ballarat's horse trams; building Ballarat's first electric trams; Ballarat's later electric trams; laying tram track.).
•Recreation.
